Effect of starting materials of nucleation agents on crystallization of CaO–Al₂O₃–SiO₂ glass

Abstract The effect of the starting materials nucleation agents for glass–ceramics (GCs) was explored. number hexagonal platy particles metastable‐CaAl 2 Si O 8 in CaO–Al 3 –SiO (CAS) GCs increased by changing sizes molybdenum oxide (MoO ) and carbon used as agents. X‐ray diffraction patterns indicated that all GC specimens display reflections attributed to solely. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that, compared with CAS precipitated (CAS GC‐H) prepared using MoO a Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area 3.5 m /g 10–50 μm particles, GC‐Hs BET 1.2 or fibers length ∼5 diameter resulted approximately twofold increase decrease average particle size from 13 11 μm. microstructures are closer looks. no major differences volume fractions estimated binarized SEM images observed between those specimens.
